Docents will learn the story of Pomona Hall and the Cooper family who lived there. A beautifully-restored 18th-century mansion, Pomona Hall was also the centerpiece of a 412-acre northern Quaker plantation worked by slaves and indentured servants. Questions about everything from the beehive oven in the open-hearth kitchen to the little ear trumpet in the upstairs bedroom will be answered as part of the Society's thorough docent training program.
In the Society's two-story museum, docents will be able to trace Camden County's history from the earliest Lenape Indian culture through the Revolutionary and Civil Wars to Camden's golden days, when industrial giants like RCA-Victor and the New York Shipbuilding Company dominated the waterfront and put the city on the map.
The Camden County Historical Society, located at 1900 Park Blvd., is right behind Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, just beyond the Route 130 border with Collingswood. For more information, or to learn more about becoming a docent, please call the Society at 856-964-3333 or visit www.CCHSnj.com.
