	CAMDEN, N.J. -- From the turn of the 20th Century to the 1960s there was a thriving Jewish community at the center of this city on the Delaware River. The 1937 photo above, left, shows the downtown. The youngsters above, right, are Ruth Soskenko Goodman and her brother, Jay Jerome, outside their family's kosher restaurant. This page of photos is a selection of images from the larger "Camden Remembered" exhibit that opened at the Camden County Historical Society on June 6, 2004. The exhibit was funded, in part, by the Jewish Community Foundation.


	For the last twenty years, the Tri-County Jewish Historical Society has been collecting images and artifacts that document the people, places, businesses and cultural activities of Jewish Camden. Above, left, is the gas-lite interior of the Nuroch Jewelry Store at 1124 Broadway in 1900. The 1918 photo above, right, shows the Seidman Hardware Store with Mr. & Mrs. Seidman and store clerk Henry Schreibstein.


	Elderly members of the Golden Club gather for checkers in Talmud Torah building at 621 Kaighn Avenue shortly after the club was formed in 1950. Above, right, a 1949 photo of the first Jewish Nursery School class that was a milestone in regional Jewish education.


	Gathered on the front steps of the Congregation Sons of Israel (above, left) on 8th Street in 1944 is Rabbi Riff's Bible class. Above, right, the band of the Tri-County Post 126 of the Sons of Jewish War Veterans stands for a photo before marching off in a Camden parade in 1949.


	In 1942 Jewish merchant Jack Naden's store (above, left) on the corner of 24th and Federal Streets was typical of downtown shops in its patriotic window displays. Above, right, Ann Lemerman and Ruth Goodman pack relief supplies as part of a drive to assist victims and refugees in war-ravaged Europe shortly after the conflict ended.
